When we set out to create Clocking Out, we wanted to create a first person shooter that used a bunch of unique and alternate types of guns for the title. Taking advantage of the office setting, I designed a series of weapons that all had their own properties and mechanics. The stapler was a short range, high rate of fire “gun”, but also introduced an oil bleed effect on the robots, adding damage over time. Alternatively the pen weapon is a precision, low rate of fire sniping tool, and it can also inflict an ink effect, which causes enemies to take more damage from any attack. Then, we have a couple weapons that are quite different in their attack functionality. One is the paper shredder, a weapon you need to charge, in order to launch a bunch of paper shred projectiles, damaging enemies. Another is the rubber band ball, which the player throws, causing a cascade of bounces that damage any enemies that it hits. These were then generated throughout the levels in order for the player to have a fun and engaging time taking on our enemies.
